Which Dart Board? Bristle vs Electronic Dart Boards
Author: Caroline Smith
A dart board is a great accessory for any games room or home bar, but how do you decide between the myriad bristle and electronic dart boards on sale? Do you go for a traditional bristle dart board, or opt for a modern electronic board? This article outlines the qualities of different types of dart boards, to help you make that decision. Whatever you decide, your new dart board is sure to provide your friends and family with hours of entertainment over many years. Being able to play darts in your own home is a huge amount of fun!

Quality bristle dart boards are made from African sisal fibers, which have the unique ability to self-heal, or close up, each time darts are removed from the surface, so there won't be any visible holes from dart tips. A well made board will be regulation size of 18 inches in diameter and 1.5 inches thick. Good features to look for include rotating wire numbers, which help prolong the life of a board, and staple free bulls eye wire to help eliminate bounce-outs. To play on a bristle dartboard you'll need to use steel tip darts. Dartboards can be mounted onto a backboard or displayed in a specially designed cabinet to protect the surrounding walls from being hit by mis-thrown darts.

Electronic dart boards are increasingly popular, using the latest technology to enable automatic scoring, score displays for multiple players, sound effects and a huge choice of different games. Most have playing surfaces that require players to use soft tip darts, which have the advantage of being softer and safer for younger members of the family. Some modern versions have a specially adapted surface that is suitable for both types of darts, depending on your personal preferences and throwing techniques. Most electronic boards enable a single player to play against the computer, which is great for practicing your skills.

Ultimately, the choice is yours, and other factors such as the look of your dart board and how it will match your décor, need to be considered too. But whether you opt for a traditional bristle board for that authentic appearance, or go for the useful additional features of an electronic board, you're sure to have hours of fun playing darts!

Turquoise The Native Stone

Turquoise: The Native Stone
Author: Tony DiCorpo
Turquoise, derived from the French word for Turkish has been adored since before 4000 BC. A lot of the early European turquoise came from the Middle East in what today is known as the country of Turkey. That is where the stone's name hails from. It is said to have healing properties, therefore beneficial to human wellness by keeping the blood pure and blood pressure low.

Turquoise is December's birthstone and signifies success. It was once considered a luxury and only for the truly noble, but has since found its way into everyday lives. It is found in many countries, including the United States, mainly the west and southwest areas. The best grade turquoise is from Iran (formerly Persia), Tibet and China. The southwestern United States boasts high-grade turquoise as well but in the U.S. where it is predominately mined, (mainly Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico and Colorado) the mines are either closed or fairly depleted. Therefore, most turquoise is imported from Tibet and other parts of the world. The biggest use for turquoise today is by Native Americans to make jewelry.

Turquoise is a mineral, a hydrous basic phosphate. It is comprised of copper and aluminum, which is formed as water trickles through a "host" stone for what is said to be about 30 million years. Yes, 30 million! That water, over time leaves a deposit in the stone. The stone can hold onto moisture or dry out. If it dries out in sunlight it can change colors, anywhere from bright blue the medium green. The colors can vary too, depending on the mineral components. More aluminum equals a green to white color range. More copper equals a bluer color range. If there is an addition of zinc, a yellow-green color will appear. There is not a best color in general; it is a matter of personal taste, as is a matrix. Matrix, as it is called forms because the turquoise stone itself takes on colors from the host stone it forms in. The host rock has been seen in black, rust, brown and even darker shades of blue or green. The most commonly seen matrix is black. You can see it well as it often resembles a spider's web and adds to the beauty of the stone, making it more sought after in jewelry.

Turquoise can come in a variety of grades. The high end is harder and not very porous, and also more expensive. The lower end is soft and fairly, if not almost totally porous. This can cause the stone, over time to absorb oils and grease, mainly from human touch. The more porous stones are normally apt to changing color with skin oils and actually make the turquoise change to a beautiful conglomeration of colors. However, some like to prevent this so a treatment called stabilizing is performed. It's actually quite simple because the stone is merely soaked in or sprayed with a liquid plastic-polymer material and then allowed to dry. This plastic when hardened seals the pores and prevents oils and grease from affecting the stone. Stabilizing also deepens the color making the low-end turquoise look high-end. In actuality, all natural stones (untreated or unstabilized) are porous to some degree and are apt to change colors due to human handling and normal wear. As with what is known as "natural" turquoise, no coating or alteration is added to the stone. Each stone is cut or faceted and then polished for use or sale, as with any "natural" stone. And so, turquoise as we all know it is still very much alive and being used in many original and imaginative ways. It's best and often seen in jewelry pieces pared with sterling silver. Ah, what a classy yet laid-back look!

The Squirrel Effect

The Squirrel Effect
Author: Nan S. Russell

An industrious black-tailed ground squirrel has his home beneath a stump not far from my office window. I've been watching him squirrel away provisions for winter. He reminds me of people I've worked with.

Starting his journey by standing tall on the stump, the squirrel hurriedly looks side to side. When he's certain it is safe he leaps into the grass, jumping then running to a group of nuts nestled beneath a medium-size pine. There he briefly pauses to make his choice. Selecting one pine nut in his teeth, he darts back to the stump with a run-jump motion. Once again standing tall, he looks for competitors or predators before quickly popping his prized provision into his nest and beginning the process all over again.

Like that squirrel, people often hide what they consider important to their personal survival in the corporate world. It's called information. Hoarding bits and pieces, they act as if information alone is a work-life sustaining nutrient. The more information nuggets they have, the safer or more powerful they think they'll be. And while those nuggets might help someone survive in a corporate culture where information is a bartered commodity, long term it won't help them thrive. Here's why.

They're locked in old thinking about power and success, seeing them as the ability to render authority or influence over someone or something. They think information gives them control. But rules are changing. People don't trust people who want to control them, who want to hoard what's needed for everyone's survival, or who play a corporate game where there can be just one or two winners. People withhold their ideas and discretionary efforts in cultures like that.

There's a new power emerging in the work realm called trust. Trust is critical in an era where intellectual property is the competitive edge for both companies and countries. Companies need the best ideas they can get to prosper, and the best people passionately working to make them happen. Results of human intellect will bring 21st century profits to the bottom line; technological and scientific breakthroughs to the world. They'll also bring personal satisfaction and meaningful work to those involved.

But to do that, information must be shared. Shared information multiples as it reminds us of the Italian proverb: "All the brains are not in one head." Here people realize lighting the next candle doesn't diminish the flame of the original one, and information is critical in lighting ideas, opening possibilities and creating new horizons for themselves and their companies.

If you want to be winning at working, realize your power is in trusting and doing, not in just knowing and certainly not in hoarding. Trust builds a larger universe of relationships where a big idea comes from two smaller ones, a shared problem brings imaginative solutions, and a common vision produces uncommon results. Like the carbon atom that has the capacity to form graphite or diamonds, so do you. You will create more work diamonds operating with trust and eliminating the squirrel effect.

The Beach one of our favourite places

The Beach one of our favourite places?
Author: john
Beaches are lots of people's favourite places to go: whether it's for holidays or just for days out, beaches hold a lot of happy memories for millions.

Most beaches are by the sea, although beaches can also form by the side of large rivers and lakes, and in many parts of the world these beaches are visited just as much as the more well-known sea beaches. Also, when most people think of a beach they think of sand, but that isn't always the case either: beaches can also be made of pebbles, shingle, or any other kind of rocks that have been washed up there by the sea or some other kind of water.

When you visit a beach, there are lots of things that you shouldn't forget to take. All your beach clothes are an essential, as well as towels, and kids' toys like buckets and spades for making sandcastles. You might also want to take a surfboard or even an inflatable boat with you – if you pay a visit to a beach shop sometime, you can see that the possibilities are only limited by your imagination and your wallet.

There are also lots of games you can bring with you and play on the beach, including beach cricket or baseball, boules, volleyball, football, noughts and crosses in the sand, beach darts, frisbee, and lots more besides.

If you can't get to a beach, though, you don't need to worry. More and more artificial beaches are being built in towns, so that children there can have all the fun of the seaside even though they live nowhere near the sea. They often consist of sand that has been brought by lorry, and water jets squirting from the ground to make a kind of interactive fountain that people can play in.

Sudoku Addictiveness And Old Memories

Sudoku Addictiveness And Old Memories
Author: Charles Hawkins
The Sudoku enigma has hit wests media and newsprints with such a enormous impact, that it has to be the brainteaser game introduction of the century. But what is it that bring about writing numbers into tiny squares so exceedingly addictive?

One part of the mix has definitely to be outright simplicity of the riddle. The rules of Sudoku are so easy to understand that anybody can start solving almost almost instantly.Yet mastering the game demand enormous extent of playing and patience. A Sudoku puzzle can also be made so complex that even a sudoku master would have a hard time finishing it.

Contrary to what many will suppose when they first see a Sudoku mystery, this brain-teasing exercise doesn't require outstandingly high understanding of math. It is more a matter of judgment and the numeral characters could, in fact, be changed with any other symbol.

The dart throwing link

Since Sudoku is a game of reasoning and dart throwing is a game of precision and hand-eye coordination, you'd maybe think they have absolutely nothing in common. However, I have a story that could argue differently.

I recall when I was a kid and we spent the summer at our cottage in the country. One day my sibling and I found an old darts game - not like the posh ones they use in indoors dart competitions, but more of a robust "outdoors" (or whatever the term is) type of dartboard with digits from one on the outside to ten in the bulls eye, and somewhat weighty and rugged darts.

Neither of us where very good at tossing darts, so it was a good plan we hung the dart target on the outside wall of an old shed. After a while though, I happened to get quite a good score - 42 with five darts.

Luck had much to do with it of course, but now something very interesting happened. My sister would probably not quit before she had gotten at least the same score as me!

I think she chopped away at that dart board for a pair of hours without stopping, and had she been a person in a comic she could without doubt have been portrayed with a dark cloud over her head, so to say. It was beginning to get dark before she finally had crushed my record and could allow herself to quit.

It is actually mind-blowing to witness such determination.

Although having very little to do with Sudoku puzzles per se, I think the same kind of driving influence is also one factor "at fault" for the addictiveness of the Sudoku enigma.

Most people love a competitive encounter, on condition that that there is in reality a fairly genuine opportunity to crop up "winning" in the end. When tackling a appropriately tricky Sudoku riddle a participant can sometimes pass into almost a meditative like state where he or she frankly can't put down the pen before they have beaten the Sudoku demanding task. Much in the same way as it occurred in that dart game many years ago.

So as you see, the simple goal of breaking a record or solving a puzzle - although very basic things - can have a profound effect on a persons reactions.

This is all good, as Sudoku is a very cheap hobby that definitely grants a good work out for the brain. However, would something catch fire in the vincinity or if a person is drowning - by all means put that Sudoku brainteaser aside for just a few seconds.

Stun Guns What Are They How They Work

Darts

Stun Guns: What Are They, How They Work
Author: Olga Timbol

How does a stun gun work?

The way a stun gun works is by interrupting the communication signals from the brain to the body. A stun gun does not harm a person permanently; it only temporarily disrupts the way our body functions. A stun gun won't cause damage in the long run because the electricity that it delivers into a person's body is very high voltage but low amperage electrical charge. In this way, the charge is not intense enough to cause any long term damage to the person.

So when you press the stun gun against a person and deliver the shock to them, a few things happen contributing to their following [stunned] condition. The electric shock delivered by the stun gun will combine with the electric signals from the brain and this will confuse your body and make it hard to move. Another effect the stun gun can have is causing a person to do excessive amounts of work directed towards nothing in a particularly short period of time. This will use all of the persons energy so that they will temporarily be unable to do anything.

When triggered, the stun gun emits a bright electrical blast that is quite intimidating and makes a very loud popping noise that will attract the attention of anyone within earshot.

Which is better? Stun Gun or Stun Baton?

I would have to say the Stun Baton as it has plenty of stopping power and will shock an attacker if he tries to grip it from you 6" down from the tip-top. Or if you don't want something so large, go with the cell phone stun gun. The cell phone stun gun is the neatest stun gun I ever seen and it has plenty of raw power to back it up 180,000 volts plus a personal alarm all in one.

How do I use a stun gun?

To use a stun gun, hold the electrodes firmly against a muscular area of the attackers body such as a shoulder, thigh, or buttocks. You will not receive a shock even if you are touching the person being stunned. To completely subdue the attacker, the stun gun must be continuously applied for a few seconds. More time is required if the person is large, or you are using a low voltage model.

Can Stun Guns be Lethal?

Stunguns can't be lethal they don't have enough amperage to kill someone. They only effect the regular muscles in your body not the vital organs such as the heart or any of those organs. They just temporarily stun your muscles and makes a person fall to the ground and make it feel like they fell off a 2 story building and they are very confused and disoriented for minutes afterward. Stun guns do not kill. However, on persons with a heart condition or other medical problems, it is possible. Just as possible as someone sneaking up behind a person with a heart condition and saying 'BOO' in his ear.

What are the types of stun guns?

Three types of stun gun weapons are made for retail. The first is a static charge gun which immobilizes people by using an electric current powered by static charge. The second gadget is called a Phase Induction gun, which delivers a charge to living creatures through an electric current achieved through phase induction. The final type of stun gun is the T-Wave gun. This device disrupts the brain's signals to the body by means of an electric current completed with EMD (Electro-Muscular Disruption).

1. Static charge. Range in volts is between 80,000 and 625,000. Uses 9-20 watts. 80,000-100,000 volts stun guns use one 9 volt battery and 200,000-625,000 volts stun guns use two or three 9 volt batteries.

2. Phase Induction delivery. Range in volts is from 100,000 to 625,000. Uses 7-15 watts. This type of stun guns (Talon brand) uses more effective and efficient delivery of the shock. A 200,000 volts stun gun using phase induction delivery is equivalent to a 300,000 volts stun gun which uses static charge.

3. Electro-Muscular Disruption - EMD - is used in tasers. It's amore powerful 18-26 watt electrical system. The air taser gun looks like a pistol but uses compressed air to fire two darts that trail electric cable back to the handset. When the darts strike, a five-second 50,000 volt charge is released down the cable, causing the assailant's muscles to contract uncontrollably. The taser causes temporary paralysis and research suggests there is little permanent risk to health. A laser helps target the assailant and taser works at ranges up to 21 ft. Electrical signals - taser waves or T-waves - overpower the body's normal electrical signals, temporarily confusing the nervous system.

Advanced taser guns have the advantage of being able to get through thick clothing. If the darts miss, there are two probes in front of the weapon, allowing the unit to be used as a stun weapon. Because these weapons affect the central nervous system by imitating the electrical impulses used to communicate within the human body, a hit anywhere on the body can be effective. Thus, the ADVANCED TASER is much easier to use than sprays or even firearms that require a hit to a specific zone of the body. Air Cartridges are not reusable. You have to replace them after each shooting. Therefore, use Advanced Taser only in emergency situations (unless you have a lot of money to spend for buying cartridges).

STRONG FOR THE BATTLE
Author: Irvin L. Rozier
I've fought many a battle while serving my Lord
Faith has been my shield and the Word my sword
Satan has come against me in so many ways
Often the battle has lasted for days and days

Fear not I am with thee said the Lord to me
Be strong in the battle and I will bring victory
Though I grow weary these words ring in my ears
Gives me encouragement and wipes away my fears

Right before deliverance and breakthrough
Satan will do his best to destroy me and you
By sending his wicked fiery darts
To pierce and destroy many hearts

But prayer to the Lord will avail
And give deliverance from evil Satan's hell
The Lord is strong in the midst of turmoil
The wiles of the devil he will foil

I will hold on to Jesus with all my might
He will keep me safe through the fight
Satan thinks he has a grip on my soul
But Jesus sends victory and makes me whole

The Lord gives me strength for the battle
When my faith in Him Satan tries to rattle
The mighty spiritual war is hard to comprehend
When Jesus says enough, the battle will end

Sports Betting 101
Author: mansi gupta
Betting on sports is perhaps as old as the various games themselves. Millions of people have made huge money out of betting on sports. Possibly no game is left virgin of betting. All games have bookies and wages attached to them. Alike is the case with the countries across the globe. Betting is becoming a universal phenomenon nowadays. The difference however lies in the fact that some countries have accepted betting and so have legalized it while others still consider it illicit. For instance betting is taken to be legal nearly in entire Europe whereas Nevada is the only place in United States of America where wagering is deemed to be lawful. But the geographical scenario does not bring much variation in the terms and conditions or the rules and style of betting. The betting policies for a particular game for example cricket remain approximately the same around the world.

But what differs with the place or country is the sport and the amount of bets placed on it. Like people in Asian countries are leaders in betting on cricket. Cricket is the favorite sport in the Asian subcontinent. But in Europe and America games like horse racing, basketball, hockey, soccer and football etc. receive topmost priority. Thus that sport is wagered the most, which is relished, by maximum number of people.

Australia is one of the best places in the world to enjoy betting. This is because betting is legal in Australia and there are ample of sports that are cherished by the Aussies. Australian Football and Rugby are the two eminent names in this category. Lots of good information and even betting guidelines or tips about these games and many others like tennis are available on the Internet due to the legality of sports betting in Australia.

Ireland is the land that gives birth to the most of the English sports action. Irish football and Hurling are unique English sports. Rugby, cricket, golf and tennis are other English sports that invite lot many bookmakers and so bets. The English Premier League or one can say the English Soccer involves tremendous wagering in Europe. Darts are also famous among the English. Many people love betting on the not so common game of Darts. But this isn't all. Punters never leave The National Leagues, the National and International Cups, the Motor Sports like Formula F1 Racing, the IRL or the Indy Racing League and the NASCAR i.e. the National Association of Speedy Cars and Rednecks, involves million dollar wages or even more every year.

Human beings have always made good business through animals. Along with the horse racing the racing of animals like camels, pigs, ponies and dogs invite great amount of betting in Europe as well as on the land of America.

While betting on any game what should be followed is your knowledge of the game and what your intuition or common sense says. A bettor should be pretty clear and confident over the option of his bet. If an individual is making a bet for the first time, don't bet big. It can lead to unexpected snags. Remember, it takes time to learn and develop betting skills.

Speak Your Faith
Author: Living the Abundant and Prosperous Christian Life
God wants you to live an abundant and prosperous life. But, please don't think the devil is going to just stand by and watch while God outrageously prospers you. The devil's whole purpose is to kill, steal, and destroy. (John 10:10)

Well, if that's the case, what are we to do? Ephesians 6:11 says, "Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil." Truth, righteousness, preparation to share the gospel, faith, salvation, and the Word of God is the armor. Verse 16 says, "Above all, take the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the enemy."

Faith is a shield. When the devil's lies come at you, you must know what God's Word says concerning your circumstances in order to quench the devil's lies.

Unfortunately, too many Christians are ignorant of God's Word, so they operate in a spirit of fear, which is the opposite of faith. We cannot operate in a spirit of faith and a spirit of fear at the same time. We will flow in one or the other. We must oppose the spirit of fear and close the door on the devil so we may move forward with God's plan for our lives.

As Faith is our shield (our defense), God's Word is our Sword (our offense).

Now, we must not only believe God's Word, but we must speak it. Our words are containers of power. When all hell is coming against us, we need to hold fast to the confession of our faith and say what the Word says in light of our situation instead of what the circumstances look like or how they make us feel.

Not speaking the positive report of God's Word is the reason why so many believers fall short of receiving God's best. 2 Corinthians 4:13 says, "I believed, and therefore have I spoken." By speaking negative words we are in agreement with the devil. The door then becomes open for him to produce the very conditions you are speaking. Instead, speak the promises of God, get into agreement with Him, and you will eventually see God's promises fulfilled in your life.

'Set' your Products to Sell
Author: Chris Malta
"'Set' your Products to Sell"
If you spend any length of time selling products on the Internet, you're going to find out that it's very hard to sell "very low priced" products.

What? Why is that? You'd think that people would LOVE to pay Very Low Prices for products!
Well, that's true, when they're getting value for their money. But there is one thing that will make your customer back up so fast, they'll have to make a "beeping" noise, like a big truck in reverse:
Shipping charges.
Ah, yes. Shipping Charges. The bane of the Internet Retailer. Ground shipping, air, motor freight. Residential delivery surcharge. Shipping insurance charge. Signature release charge. They get you coming and going. (Literally!).
We sell brand name products on the Internet using the Drop Shipping method. We have genuine wholesale distributors who will fill our single-item orders by wending the products we sell DIRECTLY to our customers from the warehouse, with our business name on the package. Very low cost and effective.
BUT…they still have to charge us shipping, which means we still have to charge our CUSTOMERS shipping.
Normally, that's just fine. Internet customers understand shipping charges, and with most products, it's not even an issue.
However, what happens when you have a site that sells an "accessory" type product that goes along with your general product line, but only costs about $5 retail? A customer comes along and wants to buy that inexpensive accessory, but during the process of completing the order, they realize they are going to have to pay about $7 in shipping.
Ouch! $12 for a $5 accessory? Don't think so.
So what do you do? Are you going to deprive your customers of the "accessories" that go along with your general product line, and possible lose that customer's attention for good?
Not your first choice, is it?
There's a way around this problem for many types of products.
Suppose your site sells those cool Velcro-type dart boards that parents love to give their kids, because Velcro tips won't put holes in the walls, or in the other kids either, for that matter. The dart boards come with a supply of plastic darts.
However, we're talking about KIDS here. Plastic darts break. They disappear. They go running off down the road taped to the tail of the neighbor's cat. Someday, little Johnny is going to want to play darts with a Dart Set that has no darts. There will be crying involved; I have three kids and a grandson, and I know that sound.
Some parents will think ahead and buy some extra darts from you when they order the Set in the first place. Most will not.
Ok, someone comes back to your site and wants to order another set of three plastic Velcro darts. You sell them for $5. The shipping cost is $7.
$12 for three plastic Velcro-tipped darts? Guess what…Johnny's Mom or Dad is going to decide to spend some time convincing Johnny that the Dart Set was never any fun anyway. It won't be easy, and Mom or Dad will probably blame YOU for that, whether they should or not. :o)
So what can you do about that?
It's very simple.
You can "group" those little accessory packages of darts, and sell them as "sets".
For example, group FOUR of those $5 packages of darts together as a single product on your site, and call it a "Complete 4-player Dart Set" (each player uses three darts while playing, so 4 sets covers 4 players.) That way, you have something you can charge $20 for (or a little less, since you're moving them in bulk), and the $7 shipping charge suddenly doesn't seem like so much to little Johnny's Mom or Dad.
Think about how happy THEY'LL be with the idea too…EXTRA sets of darts for the NEXT time Johnny's darts skip off into the Twilight Zone of Lost Toys!
Stretching it a bit? Sure I am! It's a story, for the sake of illustration, but there's a solid truth at the core:
When you sell products that require accessories from time to time, you should also be able to supply the accessories in a manner that will be comfortable for the customer.
Think about this too: the products don't HAVE to be accessories. This works for ANY individual products that just happen to be very low priced to begin with. Be creative!
Grouping products into "Sets" can't be done with every product, but you should be able to think of a way to do it for most!

Pepper Spray Or Stun Guns

Pepper Spray Or Stun Guns?
Author: Robert Nelson

If you are serious about self defense, and you want to take a non-lethal approach, you will have a choice between only a few items that can stop an attacker in his/her tracks.

You have a right to protect yourself and those you love. And you should be able to act on a moments notice. Don't become another victim......fight back!

Stun Guns, of at least 400,000 volts and up, will stop most people. Some people can take quite a jolt, and keep on coming. It really depends on what part of the body the Stun Gun contacts.

A strong Stun Gun, and they go up to 750,000 volts, can drop a large man in seconds. You would contact the upper part of the body, on the torso. You will have time to either get away, or furthur subdue the attacker. If there is more than one attacker, you will have to be in close contact with each of them, in order to stop the attack.

If you had a TASER, it would shoot out two electronic darts attached to wires that would bring down any man, except for maybe Rodney King. The TASER only holds one shot, after that it functions only as a stun gun.

Pepper Sprays, such as MACE, are extremely effective in stopping an attack. Pepper Sprays come in a couple of strenghts, but beleive me, you would not like to be sprayed by any of them. They also come in different sizes.

Here is the difference -- You can use Pepper Sprays at a distance, and you can be effective with several attackers at one time, You can spray a whole gang at one time with some of these large spray canisters. A drawback with Pepper Sprays is that you have to be careful not to spray into the wind. It will come back in your face, and you will be very sorry. If you use a spray indoors, no problem with spray-back.

You can also buy Combo Stun Guns. This is a Stun Gun with built in Pepper Spray. Now you can first Pepper Spray, and if needed...you can Stun the attacker. A great combination.

It is ALWAYS better to keep a distance from an attacker. This is most effectively done with Pepper Spray.

I Love A Good Game Of Darts

I Love A Good Game Of Darts
Author: Martin Stoleman -
Isn't it strange how there are some things from childhood that you don't miss and that you'll probably never do again and then how there are things that you loved so much you would still do them everyday as an adult if you could? Well, I've been missing the strangest things from childhood lately, I'll admit it. For example, I've been missing some of the games that my siblings and I used to entertain ourselves with as young children. We used to play darts for hours on end, and lately I've been playing darts nearly every day.

I'm not sure when I remembered my love for darts, but I can tell you with honesty that from the moment I heard mention of darts a few months ago I have been like a mad man. I immediately went out and bought the nicest set of darts and a dart board that I could find and I have played at least a game or two of darts most every day since then. It is a sort of strange obsession, I know, and many people in my family and friends are making fun of me for it, but I just cannot help it. I love throwing the darts and trying to perfect my throws just so.

I guess I love darts so much because of the memories I have from childhood. I loved being with my siblings and enjoying afternoons filled with game after game. Darts was a game that wasn't introduced to us until later in our childhood, so we learned it late but picked it up fast and were hooked. We would rush home from school, drop our bags and rush into the gameroom where the darts was. We would play for as many hours as we could before being called to dinner or to homework. Now that my siblings are far apart we cannot play darts anymore, but I have taught my children and my close friends how to play.

If you are looking for an easy and fun hobby to pick up, then try getting a dart board and some darts. I love it because it is cheaper than many games and because it lasts for a longtime. No game of darts is quite the same so it can provide endless hours of entertainment and laughter. It really becomes a challenge to do things better and better the more darts you play. So get to a local store and buy yourself a set of darts today. You'll have guarenteed fun for months and years on end.

Going From The Pinch Collar To The Soft-Collar
Author: Adam Katz -
[Adam's replies denoted by '>>' within original question]

Dear Adam:

My pup is a 8 month-old male Labrador.

I have read your "Secrets of a Professional Dog Trainer." I have also just finished 8 private lessons with a trainer using the pinch collar. My question is: With the pinch collar on the lab works well; put a soft collar he won't work the same; if fact, he won't even go in a down sometimes. So I didn't really teach this dog anything; only that he feared a correction with a "pinch." What's your opinions, and I'm sure you've got them.

First, there should be NO FEAR associated with the pinch collar. I'm assuming that you've misunderstood some of the basic concepts or you just described it peculiarly in your e-mail.

As for your question, here's what you're missing: CONDITIONING YOUR DOG TO THE BEHAVIOR. So far, all you've done is taught your dog to UNDERSTAND the behavior. But you have not turned the behavior into a CONDITIONED RESPONSE. This is why - in my book - I advise you to give the COMMAND-CORRECTION-PRAISE (enforcing the behavior every time you give the command) for the first couple of months. ESPECIALLY if the dog is less than a year old.

DO NOT SWITCH TO THE SOFT COLLAR BEFORE THE DOG IS CONDITIONED. You will be undoing your progress and teaching the dog to be collar smart. (Please review the section in the book about not teaching your dog to be collar smart).

P.S. I thought your book was really good and have toyed with the idea of putting another $100 bucks for the videos. I do though disagree with your opinion on dog parks. I love taking my pup to the dog park and he loves going. Its a great way in the evening to get all the excess energy out and see them collapse for the night. It doesn't seem to have anything to do with socialization, its just plain fun for them.

Karen

Junk food is fun, too. So is unprotected sex. And lawn darts. And small cars made by Koreans. And smoking dope in your mother-in-law's bathtub. And wearing a yarmulke to your neighbor's weekly Klan meeting. And going into a gift shop and asking THEM for your gift. (Alright, so I'm not only a JERK but I'm also a SICK JERK)

That's all for now, folks!

Gift Basket Ideas for the Man in Your Life
Author: Betty Singer
Are you looking for a good gift idea for the man in your life? Are you never quite sure what to get him? Does he have t-shirts and ties you have gotten him hidden in the back of your closet? Even if your man is hard to buy for, there are great ideas out there. If you cannot think of a good gift for your man or are tired of giving him the same old thing, consider a gift basket. Most men have some type of hobby. It might be hunting, fishing, golf, or grilling out. No matter what your man likes to do, chances are you can find a gift basket that will make him happy!

You can purchase gift baskets online, but if you do not have enough time for it to be shipped, you can check your local stores. There may be stores that specifically make gift baskets listed in the phone book. If not, you might contact a local florist as many of them also make gift baskets for special occasions. If you cannot find a local shop and you do not have time to order online, do not panic. Making your own basket is easy enough. You can purchase a basket at any crafts store, use a blanket, apron, or paper to line it and stuff it full of goodies for your man!

Here are a few gift basket ideas:

Grilling Gift Basket - Most men love to grill out. If this describes your man, a grilling basket is a great gift idea. You can fill it with many things but you may want to start with a cute apron. You can go with one that is a cute pattern, like fish, chili peppers, or camouflage. On the other hand, you may be able to find an apron with a cute saying like "Kiss the Chef" or one a little more risqué like "Barbecue Naked - Show Off Your Buns." On top of that, you can place grilling utensils such as a fork, spatula, brush or tongs. You can also throw in your favorite bottle of barbecue sauce and a nice bottle of wine to enjoy when the grilling is done.

Gone Fishing Gift Basket - If your man likes to fish, he will love a customized Gone Fishing gift basket. Not only will he enjoy the items in the basket, but also know that in giving him this, you are also giving him a day of fishing! You can line this basket with paper and pile in all his fishing favorites. One nice item to add would be a portable fishing scale/tape measure so he can see exactly how big his catch is. You can also load the basket with scented bait, a trout blaster hook, lures, a bait dip net, a pair of Titanium Pliers – the possibilities are endless. You might even throw in the new reel he has had his eye on! You can also fill his basket with snacks for your angler like toasted sesame seed crackers, beef jerky, salted peanuts, and Oreo cookies. If you can find some cute fabric with fish on it, use that to make a bow on top of the basket.

NASCAR Gift Basket - NASCAR fans love almost anything NASCAR gift related. You can fill your man's basket with his favorite driver's toy replica cars or a coffee cup with his favorite driver's number and colors. You can add to the basket a hat, t-shirt, bumper stickers, coasters, magnets, or a key chain. Does your man like to play darts? There are even NASCAR darts! If you really want to give him something extra special, order tickets to his favorite NASCAR race ahead of time and hide those in his basket.

Hunting Gift Basket - If your man likes to hunt, many things can be used to fill a gift basket. Look for picture frames of ducks, deer – whatever he likes to hunt. You may be able to find a clay pigeon letter holder, a bullet box he can keep on his desk to store paper clips, or a DVD on how to be a more successful hunter. You can peruse your local hunting goods store to get plenty of good ideas.

No matter what you man likes, he will love a basket filled with goodies of his favorite hobby or sport. He will also love knowing that you took the time to get him something you knew he would really enjoy!

Get The Perfect Dartboard And Install It Properly

Get The Perfect Dartboard And Install It Properly
Author: John Morris -
Dartboards are typically made of sisal fiber and a slim metal wire lines every section. The numbers showing the scoring sections in the board is usually made of wire. The dartboard is divided into twenty sections, each with a scoring of one to twenty points, by wires that extend from the small inner circle to the outer circular wire.

1. Hanging Procedure:

A dartboard should be hung in such a manner that the distance, using the center of the bullseye as a point of reference, is five feet and eight inches parallel to the hockey line. Hang the dartboard on a backing, such as a backboard or any type, such as plywood, to prevent occasional wild darts from ruining your wall. Ideally, the backing is twice the size of the board and you could cover it with either felt paper or cloth so that it looks neat. Make sure too, that the backing is secured firmly to the wall and should not sway or vibrate, when hit by darts. The hockey, or the line measurement has to be 7 feet 9.25 inches from the board's face horizontally to the floor. To obtain a precise measurement, start from the line from the bullseye going down to the floor, measuring 9 feet 7 3/8 inches.

2. Lighting

Install some lighting. Shadows can be created due to poor lighting. Put up a bright light, making sure that it is concentrated and aimed to the board. Place a cover to keep off incoming darts as well as to hold back the light, away from the thrower's eyes. Your lighting should be set up in a way that it radiates to the entire area of the board, not causing any shadow and not interrupting your throw. The location of the scoreboard should be on either side of the board and not to interfere with the next player's shot when one is scoring. The scoreboard's size will be up to you. If you plan on having a lot of people over, a wide scoreboard may be the best choice so you can write challenges aside from the score. There are many kinds of scoreboard available, so choose the one that you are comfortable with. While others prefer the classic blackboard and chalk, you may not, as it does create chalk dust that gets on to your hands and fingers, and you might also be allergic to chalk particles. If you are, there are many alternatives.

3. Scoring:

Traditionally, sections of the dartboard is numbered and colored black and yellow. By hitting one of the large numbered sections, you score according to the value of that section. By hitting the thin outer portion of the board which are red and green, you score a double point, whatever the value of that certain section. Likewise, when you hit the thin inner portion of these sections, halfway between the central circle, colored red or green and the outer wire, your score is triple the points of whatever value that is imbedded in that section. Hitting the bullseye or the inner red area scores fifty points and hitting the green outer ring scores twenty five points. There is no score when you hit outside the outer wire. Any dart that is thrown on the board but does not remain on the board, such as a bouncing dart or a dart that fell after it has been thrown, scores nothing. Some rules, however, allow scoring if a dart hits an obvious scoring section and then drops and is caught before it reaches the ground or floor.

4. Dartboard Types:

Traditional bristled dartboard
Bristles has the function of holding on to the darts so that it cud not fall easily to the surface and puncture it. It naturally heals itself if cleaned and dust is removed.

Magnetic dartboard
A dart with no needle, it uses high energy magnets in making the darts stick to the board. This board is made from rubberized iron to attract magnet. This is a great practice game for kids. Very safe and attractive, as cartoon characters are displayed on the face of the board.

Fantasy Football Success Three Basic Rules

Fantasy Football Success: Three Basic Rules
Author: Mark Barnes

You can search the Internet or the newsstands in June and July, and you'll find a wealth of information about fantasy football and fantasy football leagues. Most of it is statistics. Miles and miles of statistics. And most sites and magazines claim to offer more than all the others. What few offer, though, is sound advice on how to be successful every year. So, visit all the sites and magazines for your stats, but search no more for the secret to winning, because here it is.

I have played in extremely competitive fantasy football leagues for 15 years. I've missed the playoffs only twice, and I've been to three fantasy bowls. I won more games and scored more points than any other team in my league's history. Now, I'll give you my strategy, and it won't cost you a dime. Here is the three-step formula for winning in fantasy football year in and year out.

The first step is to draft for depth. It sounds easy enough, but many people in my league focus on getting their starters, and the rest of the draft is nothing more than throwing darts at names on a stat sheet. I've selected players beyond the seventh round (we have 14 rounds) who have led my team in scoring. I didn't even have them targeted as starters; I just saw the potential, through all of the research I'd done. For example, take special notice of second and third-year wide receivers. They often go overlooked, because their numbers are not spectacular. Receivers take a year or two, before they adjust to the NFL. Chad Johnson is a great example. Also, watch for rookies who may explode late in the season, once they've grasped a system. Lee Evans was a star after week nine this past season.

Step two is to manage your team every week, down to the most minor details. If you've drafted for depth, you'll have lineup decisions every week, because you'll have a team full of players scoring points. Check their histories against weekly opponents (a vastly overlooked strategy by novices). Some players simply flourish against particular teams, just as some teams tend to score differently against certain defenses. This can definitely affect your weekly lineup decisions.

The third step is to watch the waiver wire and make two key trades. No matter how well you've drafted, near the end of the season, you'll need to make changes. It's time to trade away your depth for stars. Also, watch for available players to pick up -- even if they may only help you for one week. I drafted both Domanick Davis and Chad Johnson last season. Later, I traded both, so I could acquire LaDanian Tomlinson. This simplified my weekly lineup decisions, while giving me a player who would score at least one TD every week.

If you stick to this simple formula, no matter what type of league you play in, you'll make the playoffs 85 to 90 percent of the time. That's not bad in any league.

Mark Barnes is the author of the new novel, The League, the first work of fiction, based on fantasy football. Learn more about this suspense thriller and Mark's other work at http://www.sportsnovels.com " http://www.sportsnovels.com

Darts
Author: Ross Bainbridge
Darts is a fun social sport, the history of which can be traced back to the days of the longbow in medieval England. The enduring popularity of the sport can be attributed to its being a game that combines skill, talent, and a bit of luck. The upper classes of the times soon put their own stamp on the game. Henry VIII was well known for his immense love of the game, and was presented with a beautifully ornate set by Anne Boleyn.
The sport began as part of training in the martial art of archery. Historians infer, because it is not known for certain, that teachers of archery shortened some arrows and asked their students to throw them at the bottom of an empty wine barrel. The fact that the bottom of an empty wine barrel was used is a clue to how the game evolved into a pastime. It is believed that the soldiers took their shortened arrows on their visit to the local drinking establishment to exhibit their skill, while having fun there. Gradually, some inventive dart thrower introduced a cross section of a moderate-sized tree. The "board" had rings, and upon drying, further segmentation was provided by the cracks. Thus, from the cracked and dried cross section of a tree evolved the modern-day dart board.
The history of darts in the United States can be traced to the Pilgrims. These tough colonizers are believed to have played the game on board the Mayflower as it made its ocean crossing. Later, the game was played fervently in the United States as a favorite pastime.
It was around 1900 that the rules for darts became what they are today. The size of the board, distance for throwing, and even the size of the darts were standardized. Today, around the world, organized teams play for trophies and professional leagues. The prominent associations worldwide for dart games are World Darts Federation (WDF), British Darts Organization and Darts Federation of Australia.
A set of 18-gram brass darts costs around $10, whereas a set of tungsten darts is $140. Prices vary depending on the material the dart is made of, as well as any extras like moveable points or special paint jobs. Prices differ from catalog to catalog as well.

Dart Your Way To An Exciting Evening

Dart Your Way To An Exciting Evening
Author: Sue Jan -
Be it at the bars, pubs, clubs or your own living room, darts are an excellent way of spending time with friends and family. Spending time at home will never be boring as long as you have a dartboard hanging in your room.

The history of the game of darts goes back a long time. Legend has it that soldiers during the Middle Ages used to throw spears at barrel bases or cut-up tree trunks to get over their boredom. This gradually gave shape to what we now know as dart games. The system of scoring, followed across the world, came into being during the early 18th century.

Dart games have become popular over the years as it is inexpensive to play, can be played indoors during bad weather, no dress codes are required, and can be played by anyone - male or female, young or old.

The basic requirements are a dartboard and darts. With the advancement of technology dartboards have also evolved through the times. The most common dartboard is the bristle board - either cork or sisal. Cork dartboards deteriorate quickly with continued used, as the darts leave holes in the boards and the cork crumbles. The fibrous nature of sisal, however, is able to overcome this drawback and has therefore gained popularity. Sisal does not crumble even after constant use. Electronic dartboards are also available, and are equipped with sensors allowing for automated scoring.

There are various types of darts. The main parts of a dart are the tip, barrel, shaft and flight. Tips are either steel or soft. Soft tips are preferred on electronic dartboards and cork dartboards and are also recommended for new players. Steel tips are for the more experienced dart players. Shafts also come in various types. Synthetic flights are the most common nowadays and can be combined with the shafts. The use of feathers as flights has decreased considerably nowadays.

Many dart accessories are available nowadays. Instead of simply hanging the dartboard on walls, dart cabinets can be used to add style and elegance to your dart game. Many players also attach add-a-grams to get the required weights on the darts. The perfect weight improves accuracy in shooting. Dart mats are useful for new players, as the bounce-off from the boards may cause considerable damage to the floor. It is also important to have a rulebook as there are many methods of keeping scores and the game can be played under different rules. Scoreboard is also a must if you are not using electronic dartboards.

Alternatives To Television

Alternatives To Television
Author: Jordi Shoman -
It is quite easy to spend several hours a day glued to the screen of a television set. It is estimated that on average an individual watches approximately two full months worth of television over the course of a year. Some suggest that this fascination with television has contributed immensely to the obesity problem in North America. Finding an alternative to watching hours of television a day may pose a difficult task for some people who simply cannot miss a particular show that they watch on a regular basis. However, despite the temptation television creates, there are far more enjoyable activities one can participate in during those few hours regularly spent in front on the small screen.

Since television is a major contributor to weight problems, exercising seems like a logical thing to do as opposed to viewing hours of sitcoms. Not only is exercising an enjoyable way to kill a few hours it is also a great way to burn a few calories. Simply getting outside and going for a brisk walk not only helps one avoid the enticement that is television but also has a profusion of health benefits. Along with assisting one with weight loss, exercising can also increase the ability of the heart and lungs to function more efficiently and moreover help an individual feel better both inside and out.

Picking up a hobby is another excellent substitute for television. An individual can perhaps learn and develop a new skill, such as knitting or darts for example, or perhaps start a collection of something, which may even become a lifelong leisure pursuit for them.
